Shunkado

Shunkado, established in 1887, has experienced significant transformation in recent years, guided by the principle of “learning from the past.”
The company introduced two new brands a decade ago: coneri, specializing in stick pies, and Gokokuya, focusing on traditional Japanese sweets with an emphasis on five grains and fermentation, alongside its flagship Unagipie.
In 2023, on the 30th anniversary of Unagipie’s launch, the company expanded the series with the introduction of the mini “V.S.O.P.”
Rejuvenating classic products like Unagi Sable and Miso-man, Shunkado embraced a modern aesthetic, gaining attention in Tokai area souvenir shops.
With four directly managed stores in Hamamatsu, the company actively contributes to the local community through the Unagipie Factory—a popular factory tour facility—and nicoe, an interactive venue for food and job education.
In 2021, Shunkado inaugurated SWEETS BANK, a building and complex reflecting the philosophy of fourth-generation President Takahiro Yamazaki. The company adheres to the “three smile principles,” aspiring to be a joyful company, foster a community of smiles, and consistently deliver sweets that bring joy.
Building on recent organizational reforms, Shunkado is cultivating a culture that supports and challenges young employees, while also developing management skills and reforming production systems.
With a vision to remain a beloved confectioner in Hamamatsu and Japan, Shunkado aims to provide the enduring enjoyment characteristic of its legacy, passed down through generations.

Caterpillarl Oven(STO)

Shunkado utilizes a steel belt tunnel oven for its renowned Unagipie and employs a caterpillar-type tunnel oven for its highly popular Unagi Sable. The Unagi Sable ranks among the top five best-selling products. Originally produced in rack ovens, the Unagi Sable saw enhanced productivity with the transition to tunnel ovens. Chocolate-coated items, available exclusively during winter, undergo a special process. Following the application of chocolate coating, a touch of salt is added to enhance the flavor. Shunkado emphasizes the balance between mechanization for improved productivity and the preservation of handmade elements, transforming products into value-added offerings.

  • 「The Unagi Sable comes in three varieties: the classic plain, chocolate, and the Shizuoka green tea chocolate flavor, introduced in 2023.
