Kingdom Bakers manufactures morning roll breads, pineapple tarts, and Scottish pancake etc... and sells them to supermarkets and convenience stores in the UK.
Pancakes are popular across all demographics in the UK, but there has been no innovation for years and years. People of Kingdom Bakers visited iba exhibition in October, 2003 in Düsseldorf, Germany, and saw MASDAC Sandwich Pancake Machine. They strongly believed that there are great opportunity to go into the new market to innovate traditional pancake, and they introduced MASDAC Sandwich Pancake Machine.
Kingdom Bakers acquired a new factory of 5000 sq ft. (465㎡) shoreline facility on Kirkcaldy in Scotland. And they established St. Andrews Cake Company; a 100% subsidiary formed by Kingdom Bakers. The new factory was completed in July, 2004 and starts production existing Single Pancakes and new Sandwich Pancakes, named 'Pancake Pods'.
Pancake Pods start with targeting on healthier lunch box market for Kids. So they use fresh fruit fillings like strawberry, blueberry and raspberry, for 5 days shelf life. One piece of Pancake Pods are expected to retail at 49p (JPY96), while a pack of three individually wrapped products are sold at £1.39 (JPY272).
In phase two, they have plan to develop indulgent versions of the Pancake Pods for the adult market. Possible fillings could include chocolate, maple syrup and caramel. These are very good for Christmas items. In the third phase they plan to launch savory filling Pancake Pods. It has huge marketability. |
